Screen Recording (Playback)
Save the playback screen of any drive log — Dashboard or GT View, exactly as shown — as a video. Available to every user for free, with or without camera footage.
1.How to use
Open a record and tap "Play Route" to enter the playback screen, then tap REC at the top right of the playback controls. Confirm with "Start Recording": the controls and header disappear and recording begins from the current seek position.
Tap anywhere on the screen to stop. Recording also stops automatically when playback reaches the end.
The video is saved when recording stops, and you can send it to social media or messages via "Share".
2.What's in the video
Only the dashboard itself. App controls such as the REC button and seek bar are never part of the recording.
Playback speed is captured as shown (2x playback produces a 2x video).
Sounds the app plays — the speed warning chime, audio from camera footage — are included. The microphone is not.
3.Where files are saved
| iOS | The Photos app (you'll be asked once to allow adding to Photos) |
| Android | The Movies/OBD NINJA folder (open it from your gallery or Google Photos) |
| File name | OBDNINJA_date_time.mp4 |
4.About the consent dialog on Android
Android shows a screen-capture consent dialog every time you start a recording; this is an OS requirement. Choose "Start" to begin.
On Android 10 and later the app's audio is recorded as well, and you may be asked for microphone permission the first time. The OS requires this permission to capture app audio — your microphone is never recorded. If you decline, the video is saved without sound.
5.FAQ
Can I record a log that has no camera footage?
Yes. The camera slot is recorded exactly as it appears on the playback screen.
Is there a time limit?
No. Recording continues until playback ends or you tap the screen.
Is the video HDR?
SDR only. HDR export is a Desktop feature.
How is this different from Desktop video export?
Desktop composites the telemetry HUD onto your footage and supports HDR, timelapse and importing external video. Mobile screen recording is the quick way: it simply records the playback screen as is.About Video Import & Export (Desktop) →
